Book Review: Mastering SQL Server Profiler by Brad M McGehee

I just finished reading RedGate’s Mastering SQL Server Profiler by Brad M McGehee. This book brings 300 pages of super high quality content covering practical uses of SQL Server’s Profiler. While the book may be a few years old (circa SQL Server 2008), its content continues to remain current and applicable to today’s SQL Database versions.

This book brings value to both SQL Server Profiler newbies as well as experienced users with self-contained chapters that could be read in any order depending on the reader’s needs. I appreciated the book’s “How-to” approach on covering profiler, in which the author shares their practical extensive experience on each topic including: how to identify slow running queries, using profiler with the Database Tuning Advisor (DTA) and correlating profiler with performance monitor, to name a few..

I strongly recommend this book as a handy ebook-shelf reference on profiling SQL Server queries.

Happy Reading!
